About Us

Empowering women through education and excellence

Our History

F.D. Arts and Commerce College is affiliated to Gujarat University and is managed by F.D. Education Society. It was established in 1990 and was recognized by University Grants Commission under 2f & 12B Scheme in Aug 1998.

The college is situated at Jamalpur, in an area of 3062 Sq.Yard. The area where the college is located can be considered as prime residential area vastly inhabited by people belonging to middle-class, lower middle class and even poor people.

Being the first Muslim women’s college in Gujarat, the basic intention of our institution has always been to adhere to the needs of the minority Muslim girls and enhance them by providing quality education. The students enrolling in our college belong to socially, economically and educationally backward classes.

They come from orthodox and conservative families where female education is not considered essential for their overall development. They are marginalized at home and society for being a female without realizations of the fact that the female contributes to the progress of two families – the one she is born into and the one into which she is married.

Our institution aims in creating an awareness regarding female education, as it is said “An educated Mother is equivalent to 100 teachers.”

Counseling & Support

The girls of our institute require personal attention and counseling as they face many social and economic problems. We have a committee constituting of 2 faculty members especially to listen and solve the problems of such students. The counseling cell provides need-based counseling, and a Suggestion-Box enables students to put forth their suggestions.

Best Practices

  • Academic and personal counseling for students are ably carried out by teachers. A Parent Teachers Meeting is organized every year to focus attention on the performance, progress and regularity/irregularity of students.
  • Feedback of student’s evaluation of teachers is carried out every year to monitor the teacher’s performance and quality.
  • We start the college with prayer and every student is made to sing the national anthem to involve them in national integrity. The endeavor of the institution is to provide students of minority communities who are not exposed to the outer world, with an environment of mental, physical, social and spiritual potentials with an attitude of integrity, hard work, honesty and tolerance so that students can bring out their best.
